Gravity is a tremendous force which acts upon our bodies constantly. We do not necessarily perceive it as the significant force that it is. This is perhaps because it has been present since the day we were born. We can observe the first dealings with gravity when we watch a baby struggle to lift their head from the mattress of the crib. Their head will bobble and sway as they learn to operate under this force. We have never known life without it, which therefore makes it easy to underestimate its effects on us.

The structure of the body is designed to deal with the force of gravity. When the system is operating as it should, it orchestrates an amazing chain of events as this force is received.  This force is actually a source of energy! It is used to produce motion and provide stimulus for various body functions. If normal operation is hindered as our feet strike the ground, this force may be detrimental as it pounds on our joints and tissues. From here a progression leading to many other problems has begun. It must be realized that this force is not only experienced by the feet simply because that is the location of contact. Force is transmitted through the entire structure of the body. It may be compared to throwing a rock into a pond. The effect is not only experienced at the location where the rock lands, but it is visibly obvious that the force “ripples” through the entire pond.

If for whatever reasons, the efficiency of absorbing the force of gravity is reduced, the first step of a detrimental cycle is established. During the initial stages of the Cycle of Inefficiency, it may only be perceived as difficulty in performing some activities. Or it actually may not be perceived at all, since you are still able function. But since you function at a less than efficient level, you are probably working harder than necessary. Life may be more of a “burden” for someone with inefficient structure than for someone who operates more efficiently. Remember every activity is done under the influence of gravity, so our effectiveness in dealing with it is critical.

BIOMECHANICAL ANALYSIS

Our therapists are all trained in biomechanical analysis. It is important to assure that you move, walk, and perform daily activities with the most efficient biomechanical function as possible. This helps you perform all your activity with greater ease, and less wear and tear on your joints and tissues. Of course this will also be extremely important in preventing degenerative issues such as arthritis in latter years.

In addition to manual and visual biomechanical analysis,  we may also use HD video recording and playback to further analyze structural and postural alignment.
