Cervical Disc Problems

The cervical disc is the spacer and shock absorber, located between each vertebrae in the neck. Damage or degeneration to these discs can lead to significant problems such as neck pain.  In more severe cases it can also lead to numbness or weakness radiating down the shoulder, arm and hand.  Degeneration of the discs is very common and often results in no symptoms.  Research finds that about 25% of people under the age of 40 have degenerative discs without  symptoms.  Over the age of 40, approximately 60% of people have degenerating discs without symptoms.  To a degree this condition may be considered a normal part of “wearing out” throughout life.  However, excessive and unnecessary wear and tear should and can be avoided.

Function Restoration can be very effective by reducing stress and strain in the neck region and help preserve healthy discs throughout life. Even when x-rays and MRI reveal significant degeneration, Function Restoration can be very effective in restoring function and decreasing symptoms.
